GREENORE

The historic railway village of Greenore on the southern shore of Carlingford Lough was built in the 1870’s and is an Architectural Conservation Area.  The Haulbowline Lighthouse, a well known landmark, stands guard at the entrance to Carlingford Lough and Greenore Port.  Visitors can experience panoramic views of the lough with a trip on the car and passenger ferry. At Greenore Co Op, which is open during the summer months, you will discover a Miniature Railway & Maritime Museum.  Greenore Golf Club, one of Ireland’s oldest golf clubs, has traditional links and heathland terrain together with magnificent views of Slieve Foye, the Mourne Mountains and Carlingford Lough.

“Oh I’m thinking tonight of the friends that I knew

And that old boreen, where the wild roses grew

And the sweetheart I left back in dear old Greenore

Where the Mountains of Cooley sweep down to the shore”

Mountains of Cooley by Eilish Boland
